I'm super excited to show you this bedroom I've been working on over the past month. My mom has a plethora of bedrooms in her basement that she has let me makeover in the past, and this one has always just been left to the side. It was used more as a storage room at one point, then as an exercise room. For awhile, I always envisioned opening this room up and creating a little family room out of it. But we decided it was finally time to just do something in here so we decided to keep it simple and just create another bedroom.

Here's the before. Not much to say about it, it kind of speaks for itself :) And yes, if you look real hard you can see 13 year old me in that photo. Don't look to hard lol.

As you all know, I love planked walls. And on my last planked wall project, I remember thinking that this stuff is just like wood paneling from the 70s and 80s, just put horizontal and painted. So, when it came to doing this room, I decided to just paint it. It'll resemble a vertical planked wall. The only problem is that the grooves aren't too deep so you really can't see them in the pictures, but trust me, it looks wonderful in person.

This room is pretty long, so I decided to bring in my half moon table (from this project), redo it again and place it in here as a desk. The painting above is from Hobby Lobby and  has gold leafing on it that ties it into the yellows in the rest of the room.

This bed. Oh yes, this bed. How gorgeous is it? It is the Ferrara Upholstered Bed compliments of DHP Furniture. (click here for link to purchase)
DHP contacted me and asked me if I was doing an upcoming makeover project that I can feature one of their pieces in and I knew this bed would look marvelous in this room. And it does :)  I am half tempted to take it back to my house and put it in my master bedroom.

They also furnished it with the Signature Sleep 12" Memoir mattress...which is divine! I've slept on it, and it is amazing and so cushy. We currently have just a plain ol' spring mattress in our bedroom, so I'm really going to be stealing this in the future and putting it on our bed :)

I think the bed completely makes the room, don't you?

The only thing left to do in this room is put up some blinds and hide that ugly window lol. I still can't believe the difference a coat of paint and some cute accessories can make! Here's the before and after again...

  9. I would love to hear your technique for painting and prepping the panelling. I have done it once and it was a nightmare! Had to sand and re-sand as my primer wasn't sticking. I am moving into a new house that has panelling everywhere! Any tips would be grateful!

  11. I ,too, may be moving into another home with a basement that is all paneling in all the rooms in the basement. How did you prep it, and did you do anything to the ceiling tiles to cover them or did you leave them? Please email me ASAP Thank you. sheryls@arickaree.org

  12. Hi there, the room looks great. I am moving into a place with what looks like the same or similar panelling. The painter told me I can’t paint it because it is “fake” wood. Is yours real wood or fake wood panelling? Thanks,
    Kate
