My Home 6 Years Later (My Blog Anniversary!)

This week marks my 6 year blog anniversary! I can't believe how quickly these years have gone by. It just amazes me. It's also amazing how much blogging has changed over these 6 years and even the style of everything. It's definitely been quite a ride and so fun to watch things shift as they do.

As with most of my other blog anniversaries, I like to look back on how my house looked like before I had my blog, or even when I just started it. I reached back waaay into time on some of these. I even found some of the pictures from my first apartment. Maybe one of these days I'll share them with you...maybe :)

When we first moved into our house, we had a couch, end tables and a coffee table, a dining table and a bedroom set. The bedroom set and the dining table were both "lent" to us at the time. So, we really didn't have much. It's been a crazy and fun six years decorating this house and boy how my style has changed! Here's our living room just a month after we moved in.

And of course, the after. My photographing skills have changed a bit too as you can see :) Want to know something pathetic? I haven't used that coffee table or end tables for like 4 years and they are still collecting dust in my basement. I just know that the minute I sell them, I'll come up with a plan for them. That's how it always works...and that is why my basement looks the way it does; brim full of furniture.

Here's another angle, and a slight look into our dining room. I don't know how we went so long without having curtains in there. And my couch...yep, those were the days when it still looked so nice and fluffy and white. We've since moved that couch into our front room and replaced it with a sectional. Oddly, this room looks so much bigger with the sectional in it than it did with the couch.

Here's our front room. Don't ask me why I took a picture of this to begin with, but I did ;) It actually stayed this way for quite some time, probably 4 or 5 months at least. It was like our catch all for things we had that I didn't have a place for. Quite the welcome for guests wouldn't you say?

Now completely furnished, it just makes my day looking in here. It's amazing what can be curated throughout the years...I guess not too amazing when you have a shopping problem ;)

The before of this corner, as you can see, is a little bit 'newer' since there's furniture in it. But not much, still 6 years ago. This was back when I was still afraid to put holes in the wall :) The after shows that I obviously got over that lol.

Our dining room. This is a little updated from what it shows in the living room picture since I actually have curtains. But, this was truly my style back then. Like, I would have gone to town on that wall with faux venetian plaster and everything. And I know I thought about it a lot. Even talked to someone about doing it. THANK GOODNESS that didn't happen. Not saying that it's bad...it's just not my style anymore.

My kitchen hasn't changed much and I don't show it on here that often because of that. Probably the mots noticeable change is that it's dirtier and the appliances aren't as shiny ;) I did paint the walls white and added some blinds (yeah, no blinds in this before picture) and the roman shade.

The master bedroom has seen its share of change over the years and is probably one of the biggest transformations, or so I think. I remember that sconce being the first hole we put in any wall and it took forever for me to convince my husband to put that vinyl saying above the bed. And don't ask me what I was thinking when I did whatever I did to that headboard lol. If I remember correctly, this bedroom was transformed for around $500, but I have added a bench and new nightstands, so that has gone up just a tad.

Our guest bathroom/powder room was a change that happened last year and I wish I had done it earlier! It was such a drab place. It's really small too, like your knees almost hit the door when you're, you know....anyway. I love how bright and cheery it is now.

One of our guest bedrooms was changed into a nursery when our little bean showed up a couple of years ago. I don't know why this before picture is so cut off...I'm telling you, the photography skills...lol. This nursery is still my favorite. It's just so bright and cheery.

Here's our new guest bedroom/office which used to be just my office. Well, more like crap room. It was somewhat organized believe it or not lol. This room stayed like this for a few years and only got worse and worse. I finally decided to make it into a guest bedroom when the nursery came around. Now my basement looks like this instead :) I still have yet to blog and give the details about the new looks of the guest bedroom, I promise that is coming soon!

Our other guest bathroom reflected my style at the time, somewhat tuscan. On a whim, I decided to redo it...that $60 sure paid off :) I'm in love with the bathroom now!

It's crazy to go back in time and remember what my house looked like before I had power tools. I guess we'll see what this next year brings! Maybe I'll get the basement done once and for all :) And a big thank you to all of you have stuck with me for so long! ...and of course just all of my readers. You guys are amazing and make me keep coming back for more :)

  2. Happy Anniversary! I'm new to you blog and I love your style. I know what you mean about, "what was I thinking?" When we first moved into our home, we remodeled the kitchen, new cabinets, new windows, new floor. Well, I always picked neutral colors for expensive things, like appliances, floors, etc. This was one time I don't know what I was thinking, celery green was a popular color and I decided to pick a flooring that was GREEN. Til this day I don't understand what made me do that! That floor is long gone and in its place is a very neutral colored floor.

  4. This post is exactly what I needed to read today! I just started my blog AFTER thinking about it for SIX years. When I put my first post up, I instantly became frustrated with my photography. I'm so use to my cute, little edited Instagram photos and my big girl camera was not translating on my blog. I know, with time, it will improve. But, wow. So frustrating. All that to say, it's encouraging to see how far you have come. Love all that you do!
