In full disclosure, this post is for my husband. He's super excited about this project and wants to become an internet sensation :) In all seriousness though, his idea was pretty good and turned out cute, so I figured I would throw him a bone and make a post out of it ;) ...And I'm sure he loves that I just called it cute lol.
He just moved into a new office and decided that he wanted to 'decorate' it. As we were talking about what he wanted in it, he said he wanted succulents and a topiary. I truthfully had no idea that he knew what either were. I laughed so hard. Like, my husband is a manly man -all about hunting, guns and fishing. It took me 10 years to convince him to wear flip flops....To hear those words come out of his mouth just took me aback.
But his idea for the succulent planter was great. He wanted them to be in an ammo can. Which I figured hey, that's probably the best way to make succulents more manly, right? :)
Since we didn't have any ammo cans, my husband picked one up from the Army Navy Surplus store. They come with the fronts all spray painted, which was too bad since we wanted the original lettering.
So, to remedy that, the whole box was spray painted with a camo green.
Then we stenciled some letters on it and spray painted the letters with a camo brown.
The hubs decided to do ".40 cal". Even though it didn't turn out perfect, I think it adds to the uniqueness of the can.
The lid fit right underneath the can which was a great surprise.
We went to Home Depot to grab some succulents and found a ton that we wanted that were flowering...that was until I noticed the 'flowers' were just hot glued on! I couldn't believe it lol. Anyway, next time you buy succulents, be sure to check if the flowers are real or not :)
In all truthfulness, I wouldn't have minded keeping this in our house. Our buffet in our dining room is the perfect spot. Maybe I'll talk him into grabbing another can :)
Pin for later!
