Easy Neighbor Christmas Gift Idea

Easy last minute neighbor christmas gift idea
Most Christmas's I usually bake something for all of our neighbors, but this year I decided to do something a little different. I'm going to be truthful here, I'm a little freaked about my neighbors finding a random dog hair in their treats. Really. I go over each every one of them with a fine tooth comb to make sure nothing floated in. Gross, I know. But, if you have shedding dogs...especially a yellow lab, these are things you worry about. Plus, someone needs to tell my dog's inner system that it is currently winter and he shouldn't be shedding like it's 90 degrees out :)

Well, now that I have that off my chest, here's my idea for this year's neighbor Christmas gifts. I know dog hair can just as easily get in here, but I like to think that it would be harder.

It's just a mason jar full of yummy hot chocolate with layers of marshmallows, crushed candy canes, and dark chocolate morsels. Because really, you always need more chocolate in hot chocolate, right? ;)

I found the mason jars for cheap, and actually didn't mind the gold lids for Christmas. I then cut a small doily in half and glued it onto the jar. I cut these cute little Christmas trees on some adhesive kraft paper on my Silhouette and placed them on the doily. I finished the whole thing off with a cute little jute tie.

As for the layering, I did a couple of different ideas depending on the size of the family. If I knew they would finish this thing off in one whole sitting, I placed the marshmallows at the bottom, then poured about a cup of hot chocolate, then layered about a quarter cup each of chocolate morsels and crushed candy canes. You kind of work your way down, kind of like you end up putting the marshmallows on top after you made all the hot chocolate. If I figured it would be two sittings, I then did this idea in smaller layers twice. Probably ends up not mattering, but I like to think I put some thought into it lol.

I figured the cost of this was about $2-$4 a jar, or course depending on the quality of everything you get. Yeah, a little more than a couple of cookies...but look how cute! Totally worth it :)

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!
