Welcome! Christmas is my favorite time of year and I am so excited to show you around our house! This is part 2 of my Christmas home tour, you can see part 1 here. This week I'm sharing our home tour along with 30 other amazing bloggers hosted by Marty from A Stroll Thru Life. You'll want to be sure and stick around and check them all out! If you are coming from Decor to Adore, welcome!
This year I surprised my husband and threw a little red into our decor. He gives me crap about having everything white :) I gotta say though, I love the pops of red against the neutral. Here's our main Christmas tree. I decorate it a little different every years, and by far, this year is my favorite. I have really been wanting to flock the tree, but am seriously scared of the huge mess it would create putting it up and taking it down.
So, instead of flocking it, I decided to weave some 'frosted' garland into it that I found at Michaels. I used 3 pieces to cover most of the tree. I then added some 'snowy' branches to give it a little more interest. I think those two things cured my need to flock it. I also tucked wide ribbons of burlap into it. I wasn't planning on adding the burlap, but in the end, I needed just a little be extra on the tree, and that was it :)
As for the mantel. Mantels are hard for me! I seriously decorated this mantel like 20 times before ending up with this.
Since the mantel ended up being so white, I added some red frosted berry garland to it. I needed some height for the star since it kept getting lost, so I just grabbed some books. As for the stockings, I decided to go easy and just used Command Brand clips to hang them. My old stocking holders fell all the time once we put things in the stockings which drove me nuts. I gotta say, it was super nice not having to decorate around the stocking holders this year too. I think I'm going to ditch the stocking holders all together :)
For our shelves, since I cleared everything off of them for our Fall decor, I decided to play around with some things again before adding the old decor back. I ended up loving it and so it'll probably stay like this for the Winter.
I found this cute little pillow that adds that extra pop of red that this room needed. It says "when you stop believing in Santa, you get underwear." Luckily I think there's a little Santa somewhere in all of us, so no underwear for me!
The other pops of red is with the presents, which we'll add to on Christmas. We don't do presents under the tree until the day of Christmas, so you can only image how excited my toddler was to see these sitting there already :)
I also found this houndstooth throw blanket at Target. I wish it came in every color; I would get it for every season. I love it that much.
I'm loving the makeover on our little card catalog. I found the Noel sign at Target also; it lights up and adds the perfect amount of festiveness to this little area.
Now on to our dining room. I had to add a tree in here this year. I never thought to add one in years past, and I'm so sad I didn't. Having all the lights from our three trees lit up in the different rooms in our house is so magical! You can see that I kept my yellow and green theme again this year in here. I just think yellow and green go so well together for Christmas.
For our tablescape, I used the top of an old farmhouse bench for the raised table runner. I love that it's raised, it separates the plates (when there are some on the table) away from the decor. We keep it a little relaxed around here and hardly ever have place settings, so this is how our table looks most of the time....usually with color books and spilled yogurt, but still :)
For the actual centerpiece, I used lanterns I found at Home Depot for about $7 each. I then placed some mason jars filled with salt and tea lights in between them. I strung the garland between everything and added some pine cones and berries.
And of course, you can never have too many pillows. I found this cute little cover at Ikea, and the other yellow pillows on the bench from Target. I might have a slight pillow obsession. If you don't believe me, that whole storage bench is packed full of pillow covers. Seriously. Like, I have to sit on it to get it to shut all the way :)
I hope you enjoyed the tour! Stay tuned as I will be sharing my Christmas bedroom in the next couple of days! Come check out my front porch all decked out for Christmas here and don't forget part 1 of the tour where you'll see my entry and front room!

Alicia I LOVE your solution to creating a "frosted" tree! It looks truly lovely and I might borrow the idea in the future. Your mantle is simply stunning. May you enjoy all the delights of the season.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm sure it's a lot easier than flocking it :)

DeleteI love all your white, you do it so well and this year with the touch of red it is perfection. Your tree is stunning and I love the mantel and the shelves vignettes,so pretty. Everything is so beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteI love everything! Your home is gorgeous and the pops of color really do pop!
ReplyDeleteI asked in the post on the Card Catalog Makeover, but you must not have seen it, but how is the card catalog for storage purposes? I need extra storage in my dining area and this might just be what I need if it can store a good many things. Thanks for any info.
thank you Susan! I wish I knew more about the storage, mine currently houses the randomness that my toddler throws in it. I think it would be good for small items, nothing too big. It would be great for craft supplies!
DeleteWhat a magical space you have created! I love the little pops of red here and there!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cristina!
DeleteI love the whites and reds you used to decorate for Christmas. When I first saw the pic of your tree It thought it was flocked... so you had me tricked! I have a flocked tree and it does make a big giant mess. Your mantle is so nice too, it feels so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angelina! I'm glad I was able to fool you :)
DeleteBeautiful attention to detail.

DeleteAlicia I love the soft yet festive look of all the winter white you decorated with and love the idea of a "frosted tree." The pops of red are just the right amount of color. Have a very Merry Christmas. jennifer@decoratingdelirium
