DIY outdoor patio decor and decorating ideas plus free plans on the privacy screen and farmhouse table!

It's been 4 years in the making, but I finally have a decent looking outdoor living space!

We poured our 25'x16' patio 4 years ago and it pretty much sat horrible looking ever since. I did do an update on corner of it last year, and that's where we usually hang out. But the rest of it...well, it looked like this. The most unwelcoming sight EVER! haha. And don't get me started on what's going on with the dirt and rock pile on the other side of the patio...that's a discussion for another day. Ugh. Anyway...yuck!

My awesome farmhouse table I made 4 years ago for the patio was used to hold random crap, toys, and yard debris. We maybe only used it twice to eat on. I know! Pathetic. I was so excited for this table when I made it! So sad to think so many years went by without us enjoying it. I actually started hating the table itself, because it was such an eyesore. Or so I thought. Really, it was just the surroundings that made it horrible.

There was also a complete lack of privacy. Our neighborhood sits on a hill, so the people above us, see everything we do, no matter how tall the fence. The same is for us and our neighbors down the hill. We see everything they do and they see everything we do. I wish we could get a taller fence, but they just don't come that high. So, I opted to do a privacy screen just like I did on the other side of our patio last year.

The privacy screen for this side of the yard cost me about $140 to do. I used four 4x4s, two 9x12 dropclothes, and 3 rod sets. You can see how I made the original ones the same way by clicking here.

As for the rest of the area, it was just adding decor and cleaning up a bit.

I am loving blue and white stripes this year, so when I found this table runner at Home Goods, I knew exactly where I wanted it to go! This led to my more nautical type theme for the decor.

I made this farmhouse tray out of 2x4s a few years back, and love how it tied in all the wood accents on the table, chairs and privacy screen.

The lanterns I got as a steal from Home Depot a few years back. They have there Summer clearance usually around July (odd, yes, I know :) ), but it makes for some awesome deals! These were about $8 each.

As for the table again, it has held up so nicely! There's only one loose board at the end, but it stills looks terrific...if not better! I love how the wood has aged even more since I painted it with my 'fake weathered wood' technique.

Now let's talk about the seating. I used a farmhouse bench for this table when I first built it, and then I moved that bench inside which left no seating outside. Then I made some other benches for it that didn't hold up that great with the elements. So, I was left with some horrible looking chairs I found on clearance. I needed something quick since family was coming over, and just opted for what was easy and cheap at the time (see the before picture). They just aren't my fave :)

Let's talk about these darling chairs I have now :) They are compliments of DHP Furniture. You may have seen them throughout my house the past few months, but my real intention was to bring them out here when the weather got nice. They compliment this area perfectly!

These are the Fusion Metal Dining Chairs from DHP. I love the dark wood contrast on the white base. They just look amazing! I haven't had them outdoors for very long, in fact, they aren't even outdoor chairs so I'm not sure how they will hold up. But, my plan is that they will be put away when it rains/snows/etc. Until then, I'm going to enjoy them out here and have many...many dinners while sitting on them :)

As for the chairs at the head of the table, those are some extra indoor chairs I had. They too will also be brought in when the table isn't in use. But, when it's good weather...they are out there!

One last little piece of decor are these awesome solar lanterns I found from Joann's. Aren't they so cute! They add to the nautical look perfectly. I was going to hang some string lights until I found these. I just wish I could find 2 more and I would be happy!

So the total cost of this update was under $200 for me!
Privacy Screen: $140
Solar Lanterns: $30
Table Runner: $12
Metal Chairs: Free, compliments of DHP Furniture  (You can find these chairs on Amazon for about $250 for four)
Everything else I had on hand.

I got the rug last year from Target on clearance which isn't include in the cost since it was also in the before picture ;) I think it was like $70 though.
