Hello Spring Home Tour Part 2

The snow seems to have left us for now and Spring rain and a little bit of sunshine are here! I'm so excited to see all my tulips I planted last year come up. I just hope that another snowfall doesn't kill them all. That seems to happen a lot around here :) This week, I'm joining Carrie from Lovely, Etc. and 23 other bloggers in the Hello Spring Home Tours! Be sure to check out part 1 of my Spring Tours here. And you can find links to all the other tours this week at the bottom of the post.

The tour today is pretty special and a little heavy hearted. Here's a little back story before we dive in. We have had my sweet little 'pup' Max for almost 13 years. In the past year, his health started declining, more so, his legs. We took him in and he had degenerative nerve damage to his back legs and hip dysplacia. The doc only gave him 3-6 months. But, he surpassed that and it's been about a year since! He had gradually been getting worse though, and I knew the time was soon. I set an appointment to have a quality of life exam done on him on Saturday with the possibility of him not returning home. Well, he didn't return home. He was a lot worse that we had ever imagined. Something else was taking his life slowly from him, cancer or vital organ failure.  My heart is heavy and empty with the loss of my sweet dog. But, on Saturday before he left us, I took the pictures for this tour and didn't have the heart to move him out of them. So, a lot of these pictures include him in it. I thought I would cry my eyes out (although I think I'm dried out of tears for crying too much already) while I was editing these, but it's actually been really good therapy. Just looking at him and loving him through the pictures has oddly helped immensely. So, I'm sorry these pictures will be full of my "Max-doggy", but now you'll understand why :) And trust me, I have like a 100 more where these came from.

This was his favorite spot to lay. Right here or underneath the table getting lots of dropped food from my kids :)

As for the decor itself, I have done a little updating in here. I adding some board and batten to this corner, and added more pictures to my gallery wall. I kept the colors very neutral with pops of greenery.

Another big update that happened recently was in the alcove on the left. I added these built in shelves and built a new media console for the TV. I just love how this completely transformed the look of this area.

Once again, I kept the decor very neutral on the shelves and my mantel. The few plants I have are from Ikea. I did add this "Fresh Cut Flowers" sign to "Spring" it up a bit...even though I don't have any! :)

I also finished filling these shelves with all my firewood. I know my fireplace is gas, but I just love the look of this. I'll probably keep it like this year round unless we end up using them for our fire pit out back.

Another semi-recent updated was this board and batten. It brightened this space up a ton. I just love how wood pops off of white.

Talking about white, I've been wanting to paint this whole room white so this wood would pop off that much more. But, I'm scared to paint the 20 foot ceilings!

This is an angle I don't share regularly; mainly because this alcove used to be a big empty box with a TV. But, not it goes with my decor seamlessly.

I just love decorating with eucalyptus leaves (you may notice through my tours). These sprigs are once again from Ikea.

here's the whole view of our living room from this angle.

And one last view and pic of my pup at this angle. I can't believe that these pictures were taking just hours before he left this earth. It shows that he was so good at hiding his pain. He still looked so sweet and like a little puppy. :)

Next up on the tour is my dining room. Not much changes in here from season to season, just the decor on the table and pillows.

First, I changed out the pillows to something a little brighter. I always add pillows onto this bench even though they just get thrown on the ground come dinner time :) I just love the extra interest the patterns bring to this space.

Once again, my eucalyptus leaves :) I also changed out the runner to this one from Home Goods.

My buffer hasn't changed much, just a few extra added Rae Dunn cups and cups that look pretty dang close to Rae Dunn that you can find on Amazon here. :) Go check them out!

At some point in the near future, I need to change out this rug. If you look closely in some of the pictures, you'll notice it is unraveling. What you don't see is how bad it is on the buffet side. It's pretty bad :) But, I still love it so much!

  7. I have wanted to add board and batten to some areas of our home but have been hesitant since it feels if I add it to one wall or corner of a room I need to do the whole room, hallway, etc. You've picked only small spaces to do it with though. Do you ever feel as bough you need to do it throughout the rest of the space for continuity or no? Thoughts appreciated! Thanks!

    1. Well, I guess my other hang ups in trying to make board and batten wainscoting work for us are the 90s oak trim and textured walls lol.

The projects you have completed keep me going when I start one of my own.. I see some of what you've done and I want to take a hammer to areas of my home and do the same! Not only is it beautiful but it's quality work. You should be proud..

  13. I am so very sorry that you lost your beautiful, sweet boy Max. My heart truly goes out to you. I have lost many fur babies of my own over the years and I understand the heartache it brings. I wish you peace and I pray that you find healing in the many treasured memories you have of him.

  14. Thankyou for your post and pics about Max. I am sorry for your loss I have no doubt by the pics that he had a wonderful life, which is the best gift you can give to a pet. I have a 15 year old Labrador and I know that she hasn't got long to go, but has as much love and companionship as I can give her til then.
    Your home is lovely too!
