It's been all summer looking at my tragic patio umbrella. It has definitely served its purpose in a functional way, but not an aesthetic way :)
I went to look for a new umbrella earlier this year that was a little prettier, I was drawn to the ones with fringe! I loved the look, didn't love the prices. I bought this umbrella for $20 a few summers ago. So, anything way above that wasn't going to happen. I wasn't ready to give up this patio umbrella when it still functioned well for something a little prettier but 5 times as much...at least. So, I decided to put some lipstick on this pig :)My first step was of course to figure out how many I needed. Lucky for me, each roll of fringe was about the length of each section of the umbrella. So, 8 rolls.
Next was just hot gluing them on! After a couple of tries, I realized that each roll wasn't the same length as the next, give or take an inch or two. This did make a difference in where I started the fringe on each section. Once I realized that, I started planning where the fringe started more precisely so it flowed better into the other sections without too much of a gap.
I finished all 8 sections in about 10 minutes! This brought some much needed life back into my old patio umbrella. :)
The fringe isn't too long, it's perfect and maintainable. It's been through a couple of storms already and has held on strong! I'm sure throughout the coming months and into winter, I'll have to hot glue some sections on.
I just love how a super easy and affordable project can make such a change in a space...no matter how little it may be! It's all about the details.
Can we just talk about these sunflowers for a moment? They are like weeds around here...grow wherever they please. But, unlike weeds, I let them grow. They bring joy to my yard! Sunflowers are the best! I love this patio at dusk...it's definitely the place to be :)
Here's a glimpse at the umbrella folded up...I almost like this look the best!

I love looking at the progress of my yard. We started off with a 6'x6' pad and a whoooole lotta tumbleweeds. So much so, that we didn't even know we had a 6'x6' pad! ha! We poured our huge patio, added the rock wall, grass and of course everything else! Summer and fall nights out here are the best!
See that little corner in the very back of the yard? That will soon become our fire pit area...hopefully! It's been two summers with that plan and no results! Ha! Maybe next year :)
PIN FOR LATER!
Such a great idea to boost the look of an umbrella! Love the trim you chose. Pinned
