I seriously can't believe that it's almost October! Summer seemed to have flown by and now by the looks of it, so will autumn. I realized today that in about a month's time, I'll be getting out my Christmas decor. And that my friend, is crazy. How is it already that close? Before we lose all of September, I'll be sharing with you my fall decor ideas for the home. Today will be my fall dining table decor and dining room.
For my fall dining room this year, I went with neutrals and a little pop of plaid. I have a few new additions in here and some things that I have moved around that gave this space a nice refresh.
I tied the plaid pillow covers at the end of the tables in with the table top decor. I played around with multiple options for pillows, and this one won! It was nice to go a little busier on the pillow style since the centerpiece is a little more subdued.
I took away all the things I'm used to having on this table like the candlesticks and large vases, and opted for a more low profile fall centerpiece. I used a large white distressed dough bowl, added some greenery, candles, pumpkins and some old spindles. I placed this on top of a scarf to tie in the look.
The plaid on the scarf ties in perfectly with the plaid on the pillows. I'm used to having large candlesticks with candles, but I love the low profile glow these candles give with this centerpiece when lit.
Since I've been busy changing things up around my house, I also have new views to share! I usually sit on this end of the table to eat and work...and in fact, I'm sitting here now. Over the years, this view got to be a big eyesore to a huge mess. Even though I like to make all things functional, it was getting to me how ugly it was starting to look day in and day out. This new cabinet in the corner was a huge help to pretty up the space!
I also moved the apothecary cabinet over in the spring. You have no idea how useful all those drawers are!
I decorated the top with my normal items -candlesticks, lanterns, books, and a little bit of greenery.
My buffet got a new update with I made this other apothecary cabinet type thing. Yep. Still not sure what to call it! I had to move some things around to make room for it. Since there's a lot going on in this space, I kept the color pallet neutral and added a few small fall touches.
My collections of things have grown and changed throughout the years. Some of which are shown here with my mashers and rolling pins. I went to a vintage yard sale this weekend, and fell in love with almost everything there including the owner! ha! I told her, "is it bad I want to see inside your house?" and she totally let me in! Her house was amazing full of beautiful, eclectic vintage finds. Everything in there told a story. Her collections of things amazed me and were so well displayed. This gave me hope and inspiration for my random collections! Although we were completely opposite in our color choices to live in (her whole house was Flint by Benjamin Moore), I aspire to show off my collections as she did so well. And yes, she even had an amazing bread board collection too!
I added just a small little pumpkin on the top of my cabinet nestled inside more pampas grass. It just added the perfect touch.
This corner made a big change. The lamp that used to sit on top of here for years, that was never even plugged in...probably didn't even have a light bulb, finally got replaced! I put my DIY pie safe in it's place. I'm thinking that someday soon I may make a corner cabinet for this area. The more I think about it, the more I want one! To tie this little corner in with the rest of the room, I added pampas grass to enamel mug and plopped down a cute little white pumpkin.
