Do you decorate for Valentine's Day? I'm usually a hard "no". I'm not one for all the pinks and reds that are usually associated with Valentine's decor. I was having a creative moment last year and came up with this simple beaded wired heart. I loved it! It's simple, and neutral! I decided to make it into a heart garland for decoration this year.
Here's how to make the hearts, and then how to turn it into a cute Valentine's Day garland.Supplies:
May help to have some pliers handy.
Step one.
Decide on how big you want your heart or how small! This size can vary from like 8" to 15" or so. Cut the wire, either with some scissors you don't care much about or wire cutters. Fold the last centimeter or so of the wire over on itself.
Step 2:
Step 2:
Circle the wire so the ends meet, and then fold the open end through the closed end and crimp down with fingers or pliers. If you can, feed the ends through the last beads. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!
Step 4:
Step 4:
Shape into a heart! The bottom of the heart will be the wire ends, and then just find the approximate middle of the heart on top and push down with your finger to start to shape the heart. If you want to see a video on this, I have a reel of it on my Instagram reels! (click here to view) I made a variety of hearts in all different sizes. I made two garlands out of these.
Step 5:
Step 5:
To make the garland, decide how long you want it and how many hearts you want. Cut the jute to the appropriate size, leaving extra on both ends. I then knotted the jute onto the left of each heart. Depending on how your knot is, will depend on if your heart tries to turn. I realized pulling the knot from the bottom up through the heart kept them all going the same direction.
Once they are all knotted, now it's time to hang! I played around with where to put these in my home and how. Here's some looks :) I love them on the peg rail in my bedroom just hanging.
Here's a look at them being hung from end to end.
I also tried them on my old pie safe. I like the look here with them draped over the drawers.
I then tried one on an empty window frame in my front living room.
And lastly, as actual garland on my mantel! What is your favorite look? I'm glad these are so simple and quick to make! I can make tons of heart garlands in no time at all.
Here's the different heart garland with the same mantel. You can make all your hearts the same size or mix it up for more character!
What's your favorite look? For now, on of them have found it's home in my bedroom :) Luckily Aero hasn't found them yet...or isn't enticed by them hanging like this. I'm sure he would have a field day with them! The other is still on my mantel like above.

I love quick and easy 5 minute crafts! Heck, to just make one of these hearts it shouldn't even take that long! I hang the single ones on knobs throughout my house too! It's just a little sprinkle of neutral valentine's throughout my house like this that is perfect.
