It's that time of year where the leaves start to fall to the ground. Even though I feel like it should be July still, I love running in those leaves and seeing them all around the walkways and roads. Now that November is next week, I figured it was time to share how I've transformed my patio into a cozy fall retreat.
First things first, layers have become my best friend...as you may have known by now :) I've thrown in some soft, knitted blankets and a heap of plush pillows in earthy tones to create that snuggle-worthy area that is perfect for unwinding. It's like having an outdoor extension of my living room! I added this hanging old window frame and boho dream catcher to achieve that indoor/outdoor feel.
One thing I absolutely love is the idea of bringing the indoors outside. I've brought out some of my favorite books making my patio the perfect spot to grab a cup of coffee and relax. Plus, the gentle flicker of candlelight and the warm glow of string lights have transformed the atmosphere into a dreamy sanctuary.
Oh, and pumpkins! Lots and lots of pumpkins! I know I didn't decorate with any in my house the past two years, but I just can't resist them outside. Plus, I'm going to put these in where those dead sunflowers are hoping to grow some for next year! I've stacked the pumpkins in varying sizes and hues, creating a charming display that screams fall. Toss in a few plaid-patterned accents, and voila! You've got that rustic touch that just complements the entire autumn vibe.
To combat the chill, I've scattered some faux fur rugs and blankets around the chairs. I also added all the layers for a cozier fill with three rugs, and lots of pillows.
Vintage lanterns and a few weathered metal accents have made their way onto my patio,...along with these new big ones that were gifted from my mom recently. The soft light they emit creates this cozy, intimate atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding after a long day.
Creating a cozy outdoor living space is all about combining warmth, comfort, and that touch of rustic elegance. Now it's your turn....grab your favorite blanket, light up those candles, and grab a cup of apple cider or hot cocoa and enjoy your outdoors! I've added a few ideas below to help you get your outdoor living space perfect for this time of year.
Here's your ultimate guide to cozying up your patio for fall!
Embrace the art of layering
Fall is all about layers, and this doesn't just apply to your wardrobe. Layer your patio furniture with warm, soft blankets and throw pillows in various textures like faux fur and knits. It not only adds visual interest but also keeps you and your guests snug during those chilly evenings.
Blend the Indoors with the Outdoors
Infuse your patio with a touch of indoor comfort by adding some indoor elements outside. Consider bringing out a small bookshelf filled with your favorite reads, creating a cozy reading nook amidst the autumn foliage.
Sensual Candlelight and String Lighting
As the days get shorter, rely on the soft glow of candles and string lights to set a magical ambiance. Place scented candles in autumnal fragrances like cinnamon, vanilla, or pumpkin spice to create an inviting atmosphere that's perfect for both intimate gatherings and solo relaxation sessions.
Autumnal Elements Galore
Time to make friends with our favorite fall icon, the pumpkin! Create charming displays with stacks of pumpkins of various shapes, sizes, and colors. Sprinkle some plaid-patterned accents to add a rustic touch that perfectly complements the season's aesthetics.
Warmth and Comfort
To combat the chilly evenings, introduce cozy faux fur rugs and blankets. These not only add an element of luxury but also provide the much-needed warmth when you're snuggled up outdoors, enjoying the crisp fall breeze.
Neutral Tones for Sophistication
Opt for a neutral color palette with hints of warm hues like burnt orange, deep reds, and browns. These earthy tones not only embody the essence of autumn but also create a sophisticated and inviting outdoor space.
Introduce Timeless Elements
Incorporate vintage lanterns and rustic metal accents to add a touch of timeless charm. They not only provide functional lighting but also add a nostalgic feel to your patio, evoking memories of traditional fall gatherings and festivities.
