Warmer weather is finally here...and hopefully to stay! I'm a summer girl at heart so this is my season. You'll find me outside more of the days soaking up every bit of sunshine I can get. When I come inside, usually it's a mess because I've been wasting my time outside .. haha...but when I come inside, my summer decor is wispy, white, light...and cozy. Yep, summer can still mean cozy and layers. The way to do it is introducing lighter materials and fabrics in place of your typical heavier ones. Today, I'm sharing with you my summer cottage bedroom ... with a sneak peak at a little something I have in the works. This bedroom is going to see a few big changes in the coming months! But for now, here are some tips on how to get the perfect summer cottage bedroom.

Sprinkle dried and faux florals and greens throughout the room. Place them in unexpected places such as a basket or a straw bag. I mimic the greens throughout the room to keep the eye scanning.
I placed these hydrangeas in one spot at the foot of the bed to bring more attention to the grouping.

Lighter materials and fabrics are a must for a good summer feel. This can be in color and/or texture. I still keep quilts and blankets around, but opt to swap out the heavier sweater knit type fabrics. That being said, I still use some comfort textures sparingly like this faux rug draped over the headboard.
Cottage decor and cottagecore decorating is all about collections. I add my collections in small groupings throughout the space. These can be displayed on the wall, on nightstands, or small curios. Collection ideas can include a gallery wall items, books, frames, candlesticks, knick-knacks, crockery, or a collection of vintage items.
Adding vintage items throughout a space adds interest, like these milkglass, wood and brass lamps. The clock on the wall and vintage frames and candlesticks also add to the feel.
Layer, layer, layer.
Layer, layer, layer.
Even though it's summer, it's okay to layer! I love adding layers on my bed with rows of pillows, and lots of blankets at the foot of the bed. Layers can also include layers of decor like these frames in the middle curio shelf.
Bring texture to your wall.

Almost every cottage has texture on the walls either through wainscoting, board and batten, wood, paneling, planks, or wallpaper. This can be on an accent wall or on every wall throughout the room. Sometimes it's fun to change things up a bit, and do something different, but cohesive, on all the walls in the room. My bedroom in here actually has 3 different textures going between the 4 walls.
Textures are also important throughout the rest of the room. Adding them brings interest, depth, and that most sought after cozy feeling. Textures can come in many different ways through natural elements such as a jute/sisal rug or a woven basket. Other textures are wood and books, or even softer textures like these tufted floor cushions and quilt.
Add a little surprise.
This is one of the big things I'm working on in this room. It's a little pop of a surprise! Having a little surprise helps liven the room even more. Pattern is a good way to do this in a normally neutral room. You can do this through color as well or through something totally unexpected! Every room should have one of those little hidden surprises. I'll be sharing more of this side of my room when I'm done!
