It's so close to fall, can you feel it? This week, I definitely can! It's like summer just slipped away. The weather around here is weird like that. We have 90s one week, and then highs of 60s the next. Because I'm a summer girl, my fall decor is a little different than most. I like to skip out on all the pumpkins, and focus on the feeling of fall more than anything...although you'll see a few dried gourds tucked away in my front living room that I'm sharing with you today. I bring in the feeling of fall, or the subtle whisper of fall into my home using textures, layers, warm colors, dried stems, and pattern. I like to decorate inside with what I see outside, so I still have pops of greens along with the dried stems.

Here are some more tips to bring in that fall feeling:

Fall Prints:
Add subtle reminders of fall with fall-esque prints throughout your home. They don't have to be the focal point of a room. Just tuck them away in a bookshelf or in a frame on the wall.

Layers:
Adding layers throughout your space ups the cozy factor during the cooler months. Layers aren't just meant for couches, although I do add lots of pillows and comfy throws. Layers can be done with rugs, artwork, bookshelf decor, etc.

Fall colors:
I look outdoors to see what colors I should be using in my home for the seasons. I always see green, so green is usually a staple color around my home. During fall though, other colors tend to pop up like warm yellows and oranges. I added a few of these colors in this room through throw blankets and mantel decor.

Chunky Pillows and Throws:
Adding chunky throw blankets and lots of pillows are another great way to bring in that fall feeling. I added a stack of throw blankets into a large woven basket here to bump up that cozy factor.

Texture:
Bring in textures that give you that comfy cozy vibe. For me, I did this with jute rugs, chunky blankets, tasseled pillows, brass candles, warm wood, and even some dried wheat stems.

Add Vintage Pieces or Family Heirlooms:
This may not be for fall, but when you want your house to tell a story and bring in a lived in cozy, hygge type feel...opt for time-worn pieces. This mirror on my mantel was my great grandmothers, survived a fire even! That's what gives the mirror itself that smokey patina. Books and old candlesticks are a great place to start collecting if you are looking to start bringing in more already loved pieces into your home.

Dried Stems:
A lot of beautiful foliage and stems are drying up outside, so why not bring them inside? I love using dried stems any season of the year, but fall most of all. This is a great way to preserve what spring and summer brought us and to have them in our lives just a little bit longer. I like to add them in baskets, to vases, or just tucked in-between some accent pieces.

The most important tip of all is to get your pets to match your home. haha! Just kidding. But, really...he totally blends right in!

That's it for today, but be sure to come back tomorrow for some more amazing inspo and visit the rest of today's and this weeks tours! Next up will be Savvy Snowbirds. Marion's home is a true delight, you won't want to miss it!
