Dollar Store Candlestick Hack: DIY Old World Charm Gold Candlesticks

This post contains affiliate links.

I was walking through the Dollar Store the other day and came across these black metal candlesticks.  I didn't think twice and picked up a small one and a large one and put it into my basket. I knew that these had potential! I had a lot of ideas going through my head about what to do with them, but ultimately turning them into beautiful old world gold candlesticks won.

I used Rub 'n Buff in Gold Leaf and a stippling brush to get the look.

Here's a video on how I did it, or read the instructions below:

The Rub 'n Buff goes a long way! I just used a little smudge on the top and base and it covered the rest from there. I decided not to actually "rub and buff" these, and left them as they were to give them an older look.

The base was a little tricky with the grooves. I also added some Gold Leaf to the inside of the tops. I noticed that the bigger one is a little wider on the top, so this helped to not see the black left in there.

This is them all done!

This is a good before and after. It already elevated the value in my opinion :) When I saw these for $1.25 I was all over them. Brass candlesticks in my area go for like $12 for the smaller size...if you can find them. So, it's been nice finding some that look just as good for a fraction of the price!

Even though the transformation with the Rub 'n Buff alone was already amazing, I decided to take it a step further by tying a velvet frayed bow around each candlestick. It added the perfect touch of elegance and charm.

They are the perfect addition to this little area!
