Although winter isn't my favorite season...at all...it is a good time to cozy up my home, transforming it into a warm and inviting retreat especially during times like this where we are getting pummeled with snow! With just a few simple touches, you can make your home feel like the cozy ultimate winter haven. Here’s how I layer up and bring in that cozy inviting vibe.
Layered Comfort for Ultimate Coziness
When the temperature drops, I can’t resist layering pillows and chunky blankets on the couches and bed. I like to mix different textures—think velvet, knits, and faux fur—for an extra snug look. Over the years, I’ve learned that layering rugs is a game-changer. I love placing a smaller textured rug, like a sheepskin or a round jute one, over a larger one. The combination gives the room so much warmth and depth.
Bringing the Outdoors In - Sort of
Seasonal greenery instantly makes a home feel fresh and cozy for winter. I love using Norfolk pine because it’s a year-round favorite that doesn’t scream "holiday." Small flocked trees, wreaths, and garlands also add a soft winter touch without feeling overdone. I place them on mantels, console tables, and even bookshelves to bring in a bit of nature.
Personal Touches for a Homey Feel
One of my favorite ways to make a home feel extra cozy in winter is by adding personal, meaningful touches. I learned this years ago when my husband would get on to me about not having any pictures of our family in the house. I realized then I was decorating for my blog, and not decorating for me. Old books, delicate doilies, and vintage frames with familiar faces are some of my go-to items. They make a space feel warm and lived-in.
Light It Up
Candles are non-negotiable for me during the winter months....real or battery operated. I scatter them throughout my home to create that soft, flickering glow that makes everything feel instantly more relaxing.
Play with Texture
Texture is key to making a home feel cozy for winter. Heavy knit blankets, sweater-textured pillows, jute rugs, and woven baskets add warmth and depth to any space. Mixing different materials like faux fur, wool, and linen creates a layered look that’s both stylish and inviting.
